About the HealtheClean Pakaging
Innovation Through Smart Pakaging
“Providing an environmentally preferable cleaning product is not just about what we put in the bottle. It is also about the bottles themselves, and doing our best to reduce the amount of packaging we use.” – Steven Patterson, HealtheClean.
The environmental footprint of the the HealtheClean range of cleaning products has been considered throughout the entire development of the product. The challenge was in keeping the products as low impact, sustainable and eco-friendly as possible whilst still performing at an industry level of effectiveness.
The first and most significant way to do this was to provide the products in a highly concentrated formula. One 500ml bottle of HealtheClean E13 Window Cleaner makes more than 16 litres of ready-to-use spray on wipe off glass and mirror cleaner. Not only does this save you 15 trips to the shops, but by refilling an existing spray bottle, you have removed 32 500ml spray bottles from the waste collection cycle!
Next on the “how can we lower the eco-footprint and increase sustainability?” list was the bottle itself and developing eco friendly packaging. All of the HealtheClean cleaning products are supplied in readily recyclable PET bottles. The bottles are free from any labels and so are also free from any nasty chemicals that can be found in the adhesives.
So how do we label our products?
The HealtheClean products come with two labels:
- A polypropylene strip that is easily removed prior to recycling, but tight enough around the neck of the bottle to stay on, even when the screw cap is off; and
- A label debossed silicone band
The silicon band can be removed from the concentrate bottle and used to label the bottle you use for the diluted cleaning solution. The tough, flexible bands have been carefully sized to fit a wide variety of bottles and the use of a silicon label means that the label will not fade or peel off due to water. This way you will always know what is in any bottle you use.
Each HealtheClean product has it’s own colour, making it even easier to identify the product you are looking for at a glance. The silicon bands can be used over and over again, they are dishwasher safe and will have a long life.
The bands themselves are not readily recyclable so we asked that if you do end up with more bands than you need, use the postage paid address supplied on the polypropylene strip label that comes with the concentrate bottle to send the excess silicon bands back to us and we will reuse them on new bottles.
The polypropylene strip label has also been designed to be long lasting in order to stay useful despite repeated handling in wet areas. The reverse of each strip contains essential information on the product in the bottle. When you are ready to recycle the bottle, remove the label and use the postage paid address to return it to us for re-use. Collect 5 or more of the polypropylene strips and return to us for best practice recycling.
